Prosecutors at District Attorney’s (DA) offices across New York State process thousands of arrests and cases annually. In order to do so, Assistant District Attorneys must coordinate with police departments, municipal agencies, courts, defense lawyers, and other third-parties by gathering and disseminating relevant evidence & information. Pending prosecution, these files are stored in a Prosecutor Case Management System (PCMS) for record keeping and to facilitate retrieval.
In light of recently enacted ‘Criminal Justice Reform’ legislation, New York prosecutors, and paralegals responsible for conducting disclosure must now spend an insurmountable amount of time coordinating and collecting information from third-parties, and county police departments in particular.
SVAM viewed its objective as using robotic process automation (RPA) solutions to digitally automate the transfer and storage of files in PCMS, decrease the number of manual hours spent by District Attorney’s offices on discovery obligations, and ultimately boost efficiency by enabling prosecutors, paralegals, and staff to focus on practice over procedure.
